EfstonScience is a privately owned Canadian corporation founded in 1970. Located at 3350 Dufferin Street, across from Yorkdale Mall, the unique passive solar design of the SuperStore has become a Toronto landmark, with over 9,000 square feet of retail, office and warehouse space – plus a huge telescope on the roof!

For 40 years, there’s been no other store like it… anywhere!

In 1970, Evan and Terri Efston opened a small store specializing in lasers and holography at 1947 Avenue Rd. They soon became the sole Canadian distributors of Edmund Scientific.

By 1975, the store had outgrown the space, and a new EfstonScience was opened at 3500 Bathurst Street. Telescopes, microscopes and observing optics were now an important part of the business, and the store’s selection of innovative and educational science products kept growing.

In 1981, the Efstons custom-built an innovative 12,000 square foot passive solar-heated building at 3350 Dufferin Street to be the Science SuperStore. The giant telescope installed on the roof in 1994 quickly became a Toronto landmark.

Today, EfstonScience is still a family business, run by the “kids”, Nick and Irene Efston. Our store is packed with thousands of unique and hard-to-find science and educational products, plus the largest observing equipment showroom in Canada.

Our friendly staff are an eclectic mix of knowledgeable science and astronomy enthusiasts. Their dedication, experience and genuine helpfulness make our customer service the best in the business.

What does the future hold for EfstonScience?

We are using our 40 years of science know-how to help make Ontario a better place. Last year we erected Toronto’s first off-grid hybrid wind+solar powered streetlight at the SuperStore.

EfstonScience is proud to now offer turn-key installation of solar and wind power systems through our eSolar division, backed by the same great customer service that has made us Canada’s Science Source for three generations.
