The GUS Hybrid Wind & Solar Off-Grid Street Light is a remarkable stand-alone street light that produces and stores power it produces from the wind and sun.

The GUS Hybrid Wind & Solar Off-Grid Street Lightis an innovative design that taps into both wind and solar power to light a LED street light. Equipped with a GUS Vertical Axis Wind Turbine on the top of a spun concrete pole and a solar array secured to a frame that can be positioned to take full advantage of the sun's power, the GUS Hybrid Wind & Solar Off-Grid Street Light is an all-in-one design that is an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional street lighting systems.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Power Production: On top of a 25 foot spun concrete pole is a GUS vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) that harnesses the wind from any direction, regardless of changes in wind direction and gusting. Along with the GUS VAWT is a solar panel on an articulating arm that is optimally positioned during the pole installation process to take advantage of as much sunlight as possible - best angle and facing south.
Power Consumption: All of the generated power is stored in batteries located inside the base of the pole. The electricity is used to light a high-efficiency LED streetlight that is as bright and intense as a traditional sodium vapour bulb. A photosensitive switch conveniently turns the LED light on and off. There is virtually no maintenance -- no greasing of the turbine (just check the batteries ).

Two designs available - depending on your personal choice of look - you have a choice of a GUS 1A or GUS 1B: the GUS 1A is the original double-helix design while the GUS 1B is a single-helix design and charges the batteries a bit faster than the GUS 1A and is a bit better in lower wind conditions since its blades' swept area is a bigger so it can "scoop up" more wind.
