Solar-panel totem poles, wind-powered robots, and other green “performing art” rss

Just over a year ago, EfstonScience installed what you could call a wind-powered “totem pole” topped by a vertical-axis wind turbine, flanked by solar panel “wings” all the way down.

The 68-foot-tall 5.5kW hybrid wind+solar ePole at the Rouge Valley Conservation Centre is a striking new landmark of in eastern Greater Toronto. It’s also expected to make more than $60,000 over 20 years by selling power back into the grid via Ontario’s MicroFIT program.

While on the road to install some of our latest wind/solar power projects in the coming year, we thought it would be fun to look back on some other green projects out there that blur the line between utility and art:
