Electromagnet induction was discovered by a famous British scientist called Michael Faraday. It was one of the most important scientific discoveries of all time! This forms the basis of how this great kit can be used in a classroom setting! If you move a wire into or out of a magnetic field, an electric current is inducted in the wire.

The Spinning Top Generator uses electromagnetic induction to operate. There are magnets in the spinner and wire in the coil. As the spinner turns, the magnets pass close to the coil, and a current is induced in the coil, which then flows to an LED light that will turn on! Although this kit does not create a huge amount of energy, it does demonstrate how you can produce electricity in a green (or non-polluting) way! Renewable energy sources, such as wind turbines and hydroelectric stations, do not product pollution, thereby protecting our beautiful planet!

This is a wonderful kit to use to present the idea of renewable energy in any classroom setting! Please note that a small crosshead screwdriver is necessary for assembly of the kit (screwdriver not included).
